Mayors, Councillors & CEOs welcome initial meeting with Mark Coulton MP discussing a North West Qld Regional Deal at the Bush Councils 2019

The Bush Councils Convention 2019 was held in Roma on 6 – 8 August by the Local Government Association of Queensland. It proved to be an impressive two days with a great event that highlighted the strengths of our regional councils and provided a valuable platform for productive conversations.

Our Mayors once again proudly represented our region, continuing their drive to deliver a fair regional deal for the North West.

Mayors continue push for fair regional deal

While attending the Convention our leaders met with the new federal Minister for Regional Services, Decentralisation and Local Government, Mark Coulton MP, to continue discussion on our Six Point Plan for the future which was put to the government prior to the May federal election.

It was great to meet and deal with a Minister who lives in, understands and feels for the bush. We look forward to continuing to work with Minister Coulton to deliver the investment our hardworking region deserves.

It was also a pleasure to hear the Minister speaking at the convention, from the heart (and not notes!) - committing to “a red hot crack” on increasing Financial Assistance Grants to rural and remote councils.

The door has opened on a better way forward on roads, power, water, taxation, telecommunications & housing for north west communities.

With thanks to our hosts Local Government Association of Queensland and host town Roma for a successful event.
