NWQROC Key Projects
NWQROC facilitates opportunities, regional contributions and partners with stakeholders to deliver projects.
With the state and federal governments promoting policy platforms reliant on significant growth across the critical minerals and renewable sectors in our region, the time is right to get “back to basics” with increased funding for the fundamental services, such as roads, housing, water storage and telecommunications, which will be required to support future economic planning.
The new NWQROC Strategic Plan 2024 – 2029 was finalised at the May 2024 meeting, outlining NWQROC’s priorities and direction for the next four years.
The Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water is undertaking a review and replacement of the Gulf Water Plan in consultation with NWQROC as a key stakeholder.
This biosecurity project, delivered in collaboration with Southern Gulf NRM continues the regional coordination, planning and capacity building work that has been making significant progress over the last 3-4 years in the region with a focus on the four eligible Councils of Doomadgee, Burke, Carpentaria and Etheridge councils.
The NWQ Regional Waste Management Plan (RWMP), funded by the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI), was released in May 2024.
The RWMP provides valuable region-wide insight into current waste management and challenges and identifies opportunities and pathways for implementation.
NWQROC is working with RDA - Townsville & NWQ as it develops a new jobs and liveability campaign.
The project will include a liveability website, a bespoke jobs platform and a custom business directory for NWQ. Content development has kicked off in December with the aim of delivering the resources by mid-2024.
The 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics has the potential to provide many opportunities for North West Queensland.
NWQROC is well on the road to shape how our region can take advantage of what the related opportunities had to offer not only to 2032 Games in Brisbane but also the international sporting and cultural events over the 10 years leading up to the games.
North West Queensland is well advanced in the development of its Regional Drought Resilience Plan helping support our region to prepare for and respond to future droughts.
