North Queensland Resilience Program 2024-2025

Latest on this project - June 2024

This program is being coordinated through NWQROC as its focus is on regionally identified projects looking to have a region-wide recovery and resilience outcome.

Following receipt of the program guidelines from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) in early May 2024, NWQROC is working with QRA to finalise a list of potential projects for consideration in this program.

Of the 18 eligible Queensland councils for this program, 10 are NWQROC members: Burke, Carpentaria, Cloncurry, Doomdagee, Etheridge, Flinders, McKinlay, Mornington, Mount Isa and Richmond.

Background

On 7 February 2024, the Australian Government announced a $91.8 million funding package to support disaster recovery and resilience activities for northern, Far North and north-west Queensland communities. The North Queensland Resilience Program is designed to help with the long-term needs of some of the most remote disaster-prone parts of the state.

Three new initiatives will support eligible communities and primary producers to recover from significant monsoonal flooding experienced over a number of years and will strengthen the region to future severe weather events. This funding package includes:

  • North Queensland Resilience Program – $84.8 million

  • Restocking and On-farm Infrastructure Grants Program – $5 million

  • On-farm Resilience Study – $2 million

This funding is on top of the exceptional circumstances DRFA funding package announced in January to help communities following the 2023 monsoonal floods experienced across northern and central Queensland.

The program is being administered by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

The North Queensland Resilience Program is funded by the Australian Government.
