NORTH WEST QUEENSLAND

Enabling Infrastructure Masterplan 2024

Realising the growth opportunity in North West Queensland requires considerable investment in infrastructure from the Queensland and Australian Governments.

As home to nationally significant mineral, agricultural and renewable energy resources, and several large ATSI communities, our region is ground zero for the delivery of multiple government priorities – all of which are driving demand for more and better-quality infrastructure.

Our approach to developing this enabling infrastructure masterplan is simple: getting back to basics.

Our focus is firmly on identifying the infrastructure we need to:

  1. Attract investment in our existing (mining, pastoral, tourism) and emerging industries (renewable energy, irrigated agriculture);

  2. Support the continued improvement in living standards, so residents in North West Queensland can have at least the same access to social services as anywhere else in Australia.

Together, we can work on delivering this masterplan, for the benefit of not just the North West, but all of Australia.

Drivers of change in the North West

North West Queensland is ground zero for the delivery of multiple government priorities – all of which are driving demand for more and better-quality infrastructure.

Achieving government priorities requires a corresponding investment in infrastructure from government.

New infrastructure is needed to both drive and accommodate the planned growth in the North West.

The Way Forward

NWQROC calls on the Queensland and Australian Governments to commit to the establishment of a regional infrastructure partnership between NWQROC, the Queensland Government, the Australian Government.

The purpose of this regional partnership will be to coordinate and progress all aspects of the planning and delivery of identified infrastructure needs. A key focus will be on streamlining regulatory approvals and development processes.

Resolving the infrastructure gaps in the North West requires an innovative partnership between NWQROC and the Queensland and Australian Governments.
