Road to Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics has the potential to provide many opportunities for North West Queensland.

NWQROC is well on the road to shape how our region can take advantage of what the related opportunities have to offer not only to 2032 Games in Brisbane but also the international sporting and cultural events over the 10 years leading up to the games.

WQAC Olympic and Paralympic opportunities

Natalie Cook joined the WQAC2024 program from Paris 2024.

WQAC Brisbane 2032: It was a gold medal presentation post-lunch with Olympic champion Natalie Cook OAM OLY joining the 2024 WQAC Assembly virtually to discuss how our region can limber up, get set and benefit from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It was a fantastic session with Nat and the latest step in the work WQAC has been doing to help our region to prepare for the games, through understanding the strengths and opportunities associated with the games.

Olympic and Paralympic SWOT analysis: NWQROC has joined forces with Western Queensland colleagues SWQROC and RAPAD to undertake a SWOT analysis of our tourism and supply chain opportunities to provide a proactive basis for our advocacy for our regions in terms of involvement in the Games as well as legacy after the Games.

Proposal Flyer: Our joint WQAC Olympic and Paralympic proposal supports the Queensland Government’s commitment to make 2032 a Games for all of Queensland, proposing - gold, silver and copper for the medals from North/North West Queensland; uniforms from Red Ridge the Label in CWQ; and the bilby from SWQ as the mascot. The concepts have been positively received at meetings we have conducted so far, including associated departments and Ministers.

Ultimately, the Olympic Organising Committee is responsible for deciding on these concepts for the Games.

Local representation on Legacy Committee welcomed by NWQROC

The NWQROC board was pleased to meet with Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Legacy Committee member, and Normanton local, Imogen Ruyg at our July board meeting in Karumba. Imogen was able to provide insight into her role and discussed further representations to the Legacy Committee and the Organising Committee.

Legacy Consultation Paper response

NWQROC was part of a combined response in the name of WQAC to the Legacy Consultation Paper providing further input into the development of the Legacy Plan which will be finalised by the end of 2023.
