Federal Election on agenda at Karumba meeting

NWQROC directors along with council, state and federal government representatives met in Karumba on 7 – 8 August 2018, renewing our drive to shape the future of the region ahead of the next federal election.

The meeting marked a pivotal point for NWQROC as the region’s importance on state and national agendas continued to grow.

With the next federal election on the horizon and this meeting marked the start of our campaign as we develop a strategy for the 2019 Federal election.

The meeting was an opportunity to bring together the councils along with expert advice to really get the full picture, from a local to a political perspective, to build a strong platform going forward.

The election strategy will outline our priorities and the key actions we’ll undertake to put North West Queensland front and centre before the nation heads to the polling booths next year.

Federal representation

The Honourable Dr John McVeigh MP, Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government, also attended the meeting.

This was a significant opportunity to have had federal representation with Minister McVeigh in the region to hear from us first-hand.

North West Minerals Province

Another important addition to our agenda is discussions on the North West Minerals Province Blueprint with representatives from the Queensland Department of State Development.

North West Queensland is a region with a proud mining history, and the North West Minerals Province represents great potential for industry growth that will bring investment and help create jobs.

NWQROC's first Executive Officer 

We were pleased to welcome the appointment of NWQROC's first Executive Officer, Greg Hoffman PSM, former long term LGAQ General Manger of Advocacy earlier this year.

Under Greg’s expert guidance, NWQROC will put our region on the front foot, working across industry and all levels of government to the benefit of our communities and our local economy.
